Walk this Way!

LM took some steps today! If we're being honest here (and when am I not?!?!?), I wouldn't count them as "her first steps" or anything, but she did it so I'm going to put it on record.

We hit the park after supper because BigM took a nap, which means she won't fall asleep until after 10pm. (I've just given up that she's going to have a quiet time, and instead, we lay in my bed together and watch a movie on the portable DVD player while LM naps.) While BigM was swinging, DM was encouraging LM to walk behind her adorable push-car walker thing. She didn't think that was very fun, so he started helping her take steps by holding her hands. Then he let go of one hand and helped her take a few steps that way. Then he slowly let go of the other hand and... she walked three steps all by herself before she realized what she was doing. She immediately sat down, looked up at DM as if to say, "You traitor!" and burst into tears.

It was hilarious.

I am thoroughly convinced she can walk, she just doesn't realize it and she will probably prefer to crawl forever. Which is fine with me, I can keep up with her right now. When she starts walking, my life as I know it will officially be over.

Throw Down

LM has just started picking up food and throwing it over the side of the tray on her highchair.

Then she looks at me and smiles. Like I think it's cute or something.

I sternly tell her "No- don't throw food" and she bursts into tears.

Then she picks up another piece and throws it over the side and looks at me and smiles.

(rolling eyes) That's when I take away her dinner.

It's Not a Choice, It's a Child

It's been a busy summer at the Mouse House. (Obviously, because I haven't been blogging much.)

Well, all of that changed today. Actually about a week ago, so I better note this so I don't forget. LM finally got a third tooth. It was actually on her Aunt's birthday, so maybe I wouldn't have forgotten. Four, five, six, seven and eight are following close behind... and it's about time, maybe she'll start to look like a toddler with more teeth.

Back to today's news! Lolli was kind enough to invite BigM over for a slumber party last night, so I only had one mouse this morning- the little one, of course.

We spent a very long time blinking at each other. While this may seem mundane and boring (believe me, it wasn't!) I had a blast. Blinking. It all started when I closed my eyes and she laughed and closed her eyes, very deliberately. (Of course I had opened my eyes again and was able to witness her copying me.) We blinked and laughed at each other for about 15 minutes. Seriously, it was intense.

If you're still reading (bless your heart, you really are a trooper!) our other entertaining story comes from BigM. We had to return a ceiling fan at Lowe's today, and BigM wanted to see "her playground"- the big display in the lumber yard... and by big I actually mean gargantuan. (I don't believe she's quite figured out that our lot is less than an acre- so we won't actually ever get a big, gargantuan playground.) And seeing as it was nice and cool inside Lowe's, I felt like walking a few laps. The mice were strapped in the Jimmy Johnson big blue race car shopping cart. (By the way, does anyone hate those as much as I do? I feel like I'm trying to steer a yacht, blindfolded, when I push that thing!) We ended up in the paint department and run into a sales associate who is texting. Not looking up, she asks if I need any help. I reply, "No" and think 'even if I do, I'm not sure you can tear yourself away from whatever is so utterly important.' She finally looks up at us and mutters, "I'm going to kill my son." BigM's eyes get as big as saucers and she cries out, "Doen kiwl your son, dat's not nice!"

The lady realizes what she has said and assures BigM that she wishes her son no harm, but BigM is not convinced. She repeats herself, "Weally. Das not nice. You shouden kiwl peopwel. Doen kiwl your son."

Maybe she'll go into law enforcement? Lawyering? (Stand-up comicing?!?!?!?)

Even more Music and Lyrics

Straight from the mouth of babes:

(an exerpt from the Little Einstein's theme song):
"... everyone to Rocket, count the town down!"

and I needed my BigM to English dictionary for this one.

"... a shoe shabby shake."

She had to sing it for me before I realized what she was singing (or trying to sing, at least.)

"and you shall be saved."

(FYI- we've moved on from Toddler Action Songs in my car cd player to their version of kid worship songs. Really cute stuff!)
