Take Two

I certainly didn't dress her. Watch out, Jaclyn Smith, LM is after your job.

Dress Up Dolls...

I dee-double-dog dare you to pretend like you don't wish this get-up came in your size.

Foot Loose and Fancy Free...

Now that she's actually going to school, BigM has been given some homework: to have each family member trace his or her foot, decorate it and glue it to a giant piece of black construction paper. They are going to take everyone's page and make a giant book about feet with it to send home with each student for one night. (It is assignments like these that make me want to homeschool. I'm just kidding, Ms. Mary Lynn and Ms. Emily, I'm sure it would make much more sense if I were a student in your class.)

So anyway, today's afternoon craft project was "Decorate Your Family's Feet Day", so I asked BigM what she wanted to decorate said cut outs with. "Stickers and glitter glue." Gotcha.
Of course, I knew LM would feel a bit left out, so I set her up at the table with her own set of cut out feet and some stickers.

This is what happens during your first free for all with stickers when you have two OCD parents. My apologies to your future spouse, LM.

She had fun though, and so did BigM.
I'll add pictures of our finished page when the glitter glue is dry. Try hard to contain your excitement.

Mmm...

With her new found "Ls", LM has been showering us with some hilarious pronounciations.

Like Ch-lock-lat.

That one is so funny, I've been giving her candy just to hear her say it.

The First (Fifth) Day of School

After a week of coughing, fevers, sore throats and a random-middle-of-the-night vomitting episode, BigM finally made it to school. What am I supposed to do until 11:45? (Don't answer that, I have a list eight miles long. I'm just getting used to the idea that I can go to the bathroom alone.)

LLLLLLLLLLovely...

It's official, as of today, LM can properly pronounce "Ls", which is imperative for correctly saying BigM's name.

She sticks out her cute little tongue when she does it, which makes it even better. I may have to start calling BigM by her old name, just because I'm going to miss it so much.

Why is she growing up so fast?

School Days

All summer long, almost every morning after getting dressed, LM runs to the back door screaming, "I go school?" and I have to break her little heart and tell her, "Not yet, baby."

Until today, that is. Yes, it's LM's first day of school. Since BigM is home with a fever, LM even got to use BigM's backpack (aka pack-pack) just like a big girl. I am in such denial about the whole situation that I have not even ordered her bookbag yet.

We prepared her well, I think, visiting the school last Sunday for open house, where she met her teachers, Ms. Heather and Ms. Sonya (aka Ms. Heifer and Ms. Sonnah. My apologies for her pronunciation, to Ms. Heather especially.) We've been talking it up all week long telling her about all the new friends she'd meet and how much fun she'll have with her teachers.

We all took her to school this morning (DM and BigM sat in the car) and she practically skipped all the way to her classroom, she was so excited. She only hesitated for a minute when we walked through the double doors, but went straight into the class and started playing. I got a high-five and walked out the door, leaving a little piece of my heart behind. I expected a much bigger production with two to three teachers pulling her sobbing body away from mine, but she was as cool as a cucumber. I know that's a good thing, but it felt weird just leaving her there. It feels even weirder just having BigM here (although I am super pumped about watching the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse marathon with her this morning.)

Noon will be here before I know it, and I probably won't have much progress to show for my "free time" today, but I'm confident that my LM will have a great day.

I'm not sure I'm ready for all of this. I guess I don't really get a choice in the matter, though, right?

Great Minds Think Alike:

BigM: Mom, when I go to jail, will I have to stay there forever?

{simutaneously}
DM: Yes
MM: Depends on why you go.

BigM: But I'll miss you!

{in unison} DM/MM: Then don't do anything to go to jail.

Getting Schooled...

I cannot believe summer is over and school started in our county today. I am really going to miss having BigM around all day. Well, actually I'm not going to have to miss her just yet... I have been wistfully thinking it would be nice to have just a few more days with both girls home and God took me quite literally. BigM is sporting a fever, a sore throat and complaining of ear pain, so she will miss her first, second and third days of Pre-K.

I did take her picture- cause it's tradition in this house to get your picture taken on the first day of school, you know. While the rest of her friends were getting dressed, packing up bookbags, and hurrying to the car, BigM was doing this:
Lolli and Choo-choo took her shopping after lunch and she came home with this ensemble:

She's got her big sunglasses, her Northface fleece jacket and some reef flip-flops. While she may not have made it to preschool, she is definitely dressed for her first day at college. (Well, the first day of winter at college, anyway.)
